Dic: 발휘, prevail

■ 필(발)휘두를(휘) → 발휘하다

prevail: 2 [intransitive] prevail (against/over something) (of ideas, opinions, etc.)
to be accepted, especially after a struggle or an argument:

  • Justice will prevail over tyranny.
  • Fortunately, common sense prevailed.

특히 투쟁이나 논쟁을 통해서ㅡ즉 그러한 과정에서 힘을 발휘하여ㅡ수용되다. 이렇게 보면, [결국에는] 정의가 힘을 발휘해 폭군을 누를 것이다. 정의가 폭정을 이기는 힘을 발휘할 것이다. 다행히 상식이 힘을 발휘했다.... 라고도 표현해볼 수 있을 것 같다.

■ 어떤 예문:

If increasing returns to scale prevail, the larger scale of inputs and production would lead to greater productivity.
