Search: a recruiting asset

"The school's president who started at the same time as me was also a cyclist and he supported me doubling the program," said Owen. "Now we are bringing in 25 riders per year." .... Administrators see value in the school's largest athletic program, which is seeing regular success nationally. "Our cycling program is a recruiting asset for our school. Our program has gotten to be so well known that we draw people from all over the country."

Word of mouth is a good way to go. Some of the lenders we talked with have raised the referral fees from employees into a new realm of over $2,000.00 per head. The existing $500.00 policy at most banks is simply not working. Several of the people interviewed noted that referrals are not easy to come by. When probed and asked about speculating on possible reasons, the answers included: "not enough money incentive," "with our reputation it’s not easy for people make recommendations," and "our employees love it here, they can be good recruiters." With a broad range of answers such as this, it seems that happy employees are a recruiting asset. Create referral incentives that get results.

Let's try to turn on the focus from early Sunday morning's events into something positive. We all love recruiting. It's what gets us through the tough times like these. I figured I would hit on a few updates that have come out over the last few days.
.....
Darrin Horn has been very impressive on the recruiting trail and is still after players all over the country. Brandon Mobley is 6'8" forward from Georgia who is down to Cincinnati, Indiana, and USC. He gets the feeling that USC wants him.
....
Shane Southwell is a name I'm not familiar with in the basketball recruiting circles. However, I'm not a coach so that's probably a good thing. Michael Boynton has proved to be a recruiting asset in his short time and has used his Northern roots to get his foot in the door of these prospects in the North like Southwell. He said he plans on taking an official visit to USC later so we must be doing something right. Not to bash Coach Odom, but the way Horn and his staff have recruited have been a breath of fresh air. There are more people interested in USC basketball more than ever now and I expect it's because of this coaching staff and their relentlessness in recruiting. Cases like Southwell prove the point and we'll find out more when he comes down for a visit.

I agree an NBA resume would be very desirable as a recruiting asset as well as a teaching asset; if not a former ‘Cat player, an individual that was familiar with Philadelphia (BIG 5) Basketball and its traditions; that was comfortable with the Villanova Basketball Culture; if not Philly, possibly DC, NJ or NYC….
