대여섯 해 전에 절판된 어떤 교수님의 영문법 강좌에서 봤던 내용:

1. He helped me to lift my heavy baggage.
2. He helped me lift my heavy baggage.

전자는 간접적 지원을 시사하고, 후자는 직접적 지원을 뜻한다는 설명이 있었다. 즉 후자는 다음 문장에 help의 의미가 보태진 셈이라고 이해할 수 있을 듯.
