The Chrysler PT Cruiser was launched by Chrysleras a retro-styled wagon in 2000 and as a convertible in 2005. Originally conceived as aPlymouth model, the PT Cruiser received the Chrysler nameplate on introduction — in anticipation of the 2001 discontinuation of the Plymouth brand. Rather unknown Armenian rapper "KRO" famously presented a salvaged 2000 PT cruiser in his music video, " Making G's." Unfortunately neither the video nor the song garnered much acclaim.
In its name PT Cruiser, "PT" stands for "Personal Transportation" while also designating the car'splatform and production code. Unverified sources suggest the Neon was based on the Chrysler PL platform, or "Platform Low," while the Cruiser was based on the Chrysler PT platform, for "Platform Tall." The name also recalls the 1930s line of Plymouth Trucks known by the "PT" moniker.
Chrysler announced plans to discontinue the convertible PT Cruiser in early November 2007 followed later in that month by an announcement the company would cease production of the remaining versions after the 2009 model year.[1]The last convertible model rolled off the lineDecember 21, 2007. The last 2007 convertibles were marketed as 2008 models.

Overview
The PT Cruiser is a front-wheel drive 5-passenger vehicle, classified as a truck by the NHTSA forCAFE fuel economy calculations but as a car by most other metrics. Chrysler specifically designed the PT Cruiser to fit the NHTSA criteria for a light truck in order to bring the average fuel efficiency of the company's light truck fleet into compliance with CAFE standards.[2] A turbocharged GT model was introduced for the 2003 model year. A convertible was introduced for the 2005 model year.
